THE CELTS

The ancient Celts were an Indo-European people whose origins can be traced to around 1500 BCE in the Alpine regions of central Europe. They expanded outward from this area in subsequent centuries. Although eventually defeated by the Romans and suppressed by Christianity, the Celts' art, mythology, and spirituality have continued to exert a powerful influence. Celtic spirituality comprised three strands of belief:

Remembering ancestors and the past;

Understanding the natural world and working in harmony with it;

and, Exploring the connection between everyday reality and the spirit realm.

Ancient Celtic folklore and divination methods can be used to interpret the signs and auguries found in nature as a way of understanding the present and exploring the potential of the future.

THE SPREAD OF THE CELTS

Although the ancient Celts came from a realatively small area in the heart of the Alpine regions of Europe, they quickly spread over massive distances. At its peak, around 400 PCE, the realm of the Celts extended right across Europe, from Asia Minor to the Atlantic coast and the British Isles, including Spain, Italy, the Balkans, and even Egypt. They sacked the city of Rome in 390 BCE, but were always tribally organized and never established a united empire. With the subsequent advance of the Romans around the 1st century BCE, the Celts withdrew into strongholds in France, Ireland, and Britain.

The Faery-Faith Tradition

From ancient times comes the mention of an oral Faery Tradition: a tradition mixed with magic and surrealism; a tradition that enchants the listener, drawing you into the mystery teachings hinted at it in its mythos.

The oral Faery Tradition's teachings and its dimensions are not about little creatures flitting about with wings on their backs, as is so popularly misconstrued by individuals who are not a part of this authentic tradition. It is a tradition and world centered in the primal earth and the power contained therein, the stars above and inside and below the earth, the multiple cirlces of existence. It is a tradition rich with Sidhe or Ancient Ones, the Gods and Goddesses of Ireland, the ancestors, and the continuum. It is a Bhairdic (bardic) and Druidic tradition.

The oral Faery Tradition has survived for over thousands of years and is alive today and very much practiced by members of a beloved community that has formed under the aegis of The Faery-Faith Network. Because the tradition spans generations and has crossed over into other cultures, it is therefore replete with rich and varied practices; it is multi-cultural and multi-religious.

Whether one is of Irish ancestry or not, it is most likely there is a familiarity with the myths or folk tales and fairy tales based on an ancient race of beings known as the Sidhe. Most modern children grow up being read such tales before bedtime; tales in which the Ancient Ones, the Sidhe, have become dimunitive and are shown as miniature creatures with gossamer wings flitting about, often creating havoc in their wake. And, more often then not, children still anxiously await the part in the story where the mischievous beings bestow some wonderful gift on their victims, thus demonstrating their magical abilities.

For the most part, children reach adulthood with a rememberance of a fantasy class of beings commonly labeled as "fairies," and if such an adult enters into the ever-deepening, ever-continuing world of the occult (mean secret or unseen) mysteries, they retain some belief in these creatures, no matter how misconstrued or misunderstood that belief might be. (See THE TRUTH ABOUT FAERIES.)

What most of the fairy tales do not convey is that such tales are based on the mythology of ancient Ireland, in the days when it was known as Banba, Fotla or Eire, and that the miniature creatures in these tales are remnants of a past race of gods who dwelled in Ireland, known as the Tuatha De Danann, the Star People, and even before them, the most arachic of the Irish gods, who are obscure.

It was from this ancient race that the first religious tradition in Ireland may have developed. It was a pagan tradition by virtue that it existed in pre-Christain times, which came to be known as a the oral Faery tradition and is the origin of the bhairdic & druidic tradition. There is not one Irish alive today who will deny knowing of the ancient Faery-Faith, whether they have personally had a brush with the Sidhe or not.

The Faery-Faith Network is an on-line community that was founded by Kisma K. Stepanich-Reidling in 1994 as a worldwide forum for believers in the Sidhe, nature spirit (fairy allies), and lovers of Ireland. FFN provides on-line training programs in our Faery School, including the ever-popular Faery-Faith Bhairdic College and Inspired Grove of Usneach Druidic Clan of Dana.

With hundreds of worldwide members, the Faery-Faith Network has evolved into a small but lovely community of like-minded individuals, who share a very important commonality: we all stand together In Faith & Unity in our belief of the Sidhe and the Faery Realm.

Within our community we also have a modern chapter of the Faery-Faith Red Branch; a select group of members who publicly represent us to the media and come to our defense in times of need. In addition, there is also an environmental branch of the Red Branch called The Order of Sacred Tara.

The Faery-Faith Tradition & Network also offers a druidic pathway as found in the Inspired Grove of Usneach, Druidic Clan of Dana. The Clan is based on the elemental powers innate in every sacred spot on earth. Individuals work to develop their psychic gifts. The Clan is open to all races, paths and lands.

Our Central Grove holds a periodical Members Only Gathering of Clannad Banba between Summer Solstice and Lughnasa. Public seasonal celebrations are offered through our Inter-faith groves located around the world. The Sacred Trees provide monthly lunar venerations.

Because our members are scattered across this lovely blue-green sphere on which we dwell, we strive to remain connected to one another via the Starlight Connection and have taken our community into Cyberspace. Thus, we have several private e-mail lists, a private member's only message board that allows members to share and exchange ideas and experiences relevent to our spiritual pathway. We offer on-line classes and training programs. In addition, we also publish a member's quarterly on-line newsletter, which contains spiritual lessons, ceremonies, daily devotional rituals, herbal lore, bhairdic storytelling, poetry, Otherworld pathworkings, healing ways, Faery teachings, as well as contributions from our Bhairds and Druids.

Each year an intensive training program is offered by Ard-Ollamh, Kisma K. Stepanich-Reidling in Ireland. The Sacred Pilgrimages give participants first-hand experiences at some of the most ancient and sacred sites of our tradition, as well as a intimate setting in which to work privately with Kisma.

We invite you to join our Network of Faery Believers and the Faery-Faith Tradition practitioners by becoming a MEMBER.

Statement of Purpose

The Faery-Faith Tradition and Network is comprised of women and men entrusted with High Faery Lore, whose aim it is to guide Kindred Friends into a personal vision of Faery spirituality, so that each may walk in a manner worthy of the Shining Ones who call them into Their Realm and divinity.

We are Seer Guides, operating within an Integrity Factor, consisting of acquired knowledge, traditional methods, and the right Motive, which is the “Law Of Love.”

We defend the Natural World -- no compromise -- for we are Earth-Stewards who seek to stand on the green-side of life.

Our Faery-Faith Tradition holds 5 Purposes, with which we exist to provide all who come into our community:

  1. Power to live on through meeting the Goddess and God first for spiritual enlightenment and continually through healing and devotion both public and private;
  2. Kindred Friends to join with through fellowship opportunities, the Bhairdic College, Priestess & Priesthood Training, Druidic Training, Gatherings and private lunar venerations.
  3. Principles to live by through the study of High Faery Lore & Theology, ranging from private devotion to study groups, and the traditional wisdom teachings available through our books and CDs;
  4. Purpose to live for through membership service options, and Mentorship guidance to help others discover their true "shape,"; and,
  5. A Spiritual Plan to fulfill through outreach opportunities that allow each member to become a Key Factor in the Faith, and have a High Impact on the world.

These purposes are fulfilled with a focus on Dia & Bandia's Grace.
