The equal arm Celtic cross is a symbol stepped in druidic lore. Representative of the ancient sun god, the cross displays his rays as they spread across the land at sunrise. The Irish sun god was Lugh Lamfadha -- Lugh of the Long Arm -- whose Gae Bulga or Spear of Illumination & Destiny never missed its mark.
The equal arm cross shows the unity of the four elements and the intrinsic nature of the cardinal directions meeting in the sacred center, which in Ireland was the sacred site of Usneach, once called the Seal of the Five Chief Druids.
The Five Chief Druids held their annual convocation at Usneach on Beltain, May 1st, the day of the sun god, when the sacred fire was rekindled and taken from house to house.
The two fine examples shown here of the equal arm Celtic Cross are some of the best we've come across in our travels. Each are made from sterling silver. The stone is black onyx.
The cross represents the station of the Druid.
